Casas com Histórias Association, a non-profit organization legally incorporated on May 2, 2017 in the Autonomous Region of Madeira, was born from a group of people who were informally developing initiatives of a cultural, recreational and social nature, and who began to consistently and regularly promote the preservation, dissemination and accessibility of the tangible and intangible heritage in urban and rural environments, related to houses and their experiences, in a comprehensive manner.

This project assumes a conception of culture as a dynamic and participatory process, which should give voice to all those involved; and of heritage as a non-hierarchical collective inheritance which gains meaning through enjoyment, active participation, sharing, and above all through awareness of the importance of this heritage for the memory of the place and the landscape. This is essential for the preservation of the cultural identity, to which the Casas com Histórias Association intends to contribute.

The association has its main office in the parish of Curral das Freiras, known as "the heart of Madeira", and a branch office in the parish of São Pedro, in Funchal, in two traditional houses which complement each other in the historical interconnection between rural and urban areas. The activities are prepared, promoted and carried out by the association's directors, associates and collaborators, all on a voluntary basis, seeking to involve institutional, cultural and economic partnerships in the areas where they take place.

The work carried out by this association since 2017 has focused mainly on research, project preparation and cultural promotion, with the latter focusing on face-to-face initiatives aimed at the public.
